We are seeking a creative, passionate, and skillful storyteller to help us produce a podcast featuring real stories of real people recovering from eating disorders (and other forms of mental illness). The emphasis here is on real — we want to give a portal into people's lives and minds and ultimately change the social narrative about the nature of eating disorders (who gets them, why people struggle, and what recovery looks like).

Over the past nine years, we've helped thousands of people recover from eating disorders through yoga. Many of these folks seek us out after decades of struggle and repeated relapses. They often have complex physical and mental ailments as a result of their eating disorders and are worn down by years of isolation, rumination, and shame. They may lack hope in their ability to recover, let alone lead a happy and healthy life.

We believe every one of these individuals has an important story to tell — about their lives, the adversity they’ve faced, and their unique path to recovery and healing. We want this podcast to show that recovery is indeed possible, even after years of struggle and unthinkable hardship. We hope it will reduce stigma, humanize the experience of mental illness, and show that eating disorders affect people of all ages, ethnicities, gender identities, socioeconomic groups, body sizes, and religious/cultural backgrounds.

We're seeking a seasoned, think-outside-the-box kind of person who can not only help us launch this podcast and share these powerful stories, but also put in place processes and infrastructure to sustain it after the fellowship period. Among other qualities, we’re looking for a motivated self-starter with exceptional communication skills, a creative approach to storytelling, experience in podcasting, and relentless follow-through on projects. A familiarity with eating disorders and mental illness is a plus, though not a must.

    Skills and Qualifications

  •   You have some experience in podcasting. You can advise us on how to develop and launch a podcast from scratch.
  •   You are incredibly organized; in fact, you really enjoy organization! In a team, you can transform chaos into order and ensure no balls are dropped.
  •   You have keen attention to detail. You can spot a typo or formatting mistake in a flash, and notice quickly when a video or audio is off.
  •   You are tech-savvy and familiar with the digital infrastructure we need to invest in to ensure the podcast is a success.
  •   You have an ability to achieve an ambitious project on a limited budget and quick timeline. You know how to prioritize and delegate when they need support.
  •   You are a problem solver and an independent self-starter. You’re the kind of person who meets a problem, gets onto Google or YouTube etc, and solves it - or reaches out to someone else on the team for help.
  •   You care deeply about offering support to people experiencing mental health challenges, and (even if you’ve never experienced an eating disorder yourself) you know the pain of depression, anxiety, isolation, and/or self doubt. You are passionate about working to ensure everyone has access to the resources they need to heal.

  • Benefits to Volunteer

You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with an international nonprofit organization and will also be granted passes to Eat Breathe Thrive courses and events.
